RADNOR, PA – The Cabrini men's soccer team saw its seven match win streak come to an end today, as the Cavaliers suffered a 1-0 Senior Day loss to Marywood.
The loss dropped the Blue and White to 7-1 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference and 7-8-1 overall.
With just one conference match remaining in the regular season, the Cavaliers still have the opportunity to earn the top seed in the upcoming CSAC tournament, along with home field advantage and a first round bye.
Today's action also marked the program's annual Alumni Day and Senior Day.
Prior to today's match, the Cavaliers honored their four seniors,
Tim Atallah,
Joe Fiore,
Ben Roda and
Xavier Young. As a group these young men have led the Cavaliers to 47 victories, including the 2015 Colonial States Athletic Conference championship.
Despite owning a 9-3 advantage in first half shots, Cabrini could not find the scoring formula. Meanwhile, Marywood took advantage of its only shot on goal in the first half.
In the 23rd minute, Marywood senior Dylan McMahon played a long cross to a streaking freshman Zac Lloyd, who headed the ball past Cabrini's sophomore goaltender
Mike Gould.
The Blue and White created several scoring chances in the final seven minutes of the opening stanza, but could not find the net.
Pressing for a second goal, the Pacers pressured the Cavaliers but the Blue and White held firm, restricting Marywood to just one shot on goal in the second half.
Again, Cabrini created several scoring opportunities, but could not find the right combination of pass and shot to solve the Pacers' back line.
Junior
Jared Irwin accounted for three of the Cavaliers' 13 shots on the day, while sophomore
Justin Barbuto added two. Gould added a pair of saves in the loss.
Lloyd notched half of Marywood's (8-6, 5-3 CSAC) eight shots, while freshman goaltender Michael Mejia matched Gould's two saves.
The Blue and White will close its regular season on Tuesday, as they travel to Cairn University (8-7, 3-4 CSAC). Game time is slated for 3pm in Langhorne, PA.
