LANGHORNE, PA – The Cabrini men's soccer team secured the top seed in the upcoming CSAC Tournament and home field advantage with tonight's 5-1 victory at Cairn University the regular season finale for both teams.
The Cavaliers improved to 8-8-1 overall with the victory. By virtue of its 7-1 conference record, the Blue and White have also earned a bye into Thursday's semifinal round.
Four players marked the scoring column, as the Cavaliers tied their season high for goals in a game.
The Blue and White wasted little time in taking control of the action, as senior
Ben Roda turned a pass from freshman
John Griffin in the game's first goal just over two minutes after the opening whistle.
Seven minutes later, the rookie notched his second assist of the day, as he connected with sophomore
Christopher Araujo in the 10th minute.
While the Highlanders got on the board in the 30th minute, the Cavaliers were not finished with their first half scoring.
Sophomore
Derrick Amoako tallied his first two goals of the season in the 34th and 42nd minutes, off assists from junior
Matt Ochman and Roda, respectively.
Despite owning a slim 6-5 advantage in first half shots, the Cavaliers held a commanding 4-1 lead on the score board at the half.
Cabrini controlled the action in the second half, as it held the Highlanders without a shot or a corner kick after the break.
Senior
Joe Fiore closed the scoring in the 73rd minute, as he converted the rebound off a shot by freshman
Josh Cunningham.
Araujo accounted for four of the Cavaliers' 12 shots in the win, two more than Amoako and junior
Jared Irwin. Sophomore goaltender
Mike Gould secured the victory with a pair of saves.
Brendan Keller scored the lone goal for Cairn (9-8, 4-5 CSAC) and accounted for two of the Highlanders' five shots. Colin Baker recorded two saves in the loss.
