RADNOR, PA – The top seeded Cabrini men's soccer team has earned the chance to avenge last year's championship game loss with tonight's 1-0 victory over Neumann.
With tonight's Colonial States Athletic Conference tournament semifinal victory, the Cavaliers have secured a spot in their third consecutive championship game and 11th all-time.
Cabrini (9-8-1) will host number two seed Keystone (13-4-1) on Saturday at Edith Robb Dixon Field for the league title and an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
The Cavaliers scored the night's lone goal in the eighth minute, as junior
Jared Irwin connected on a penalty kick for his team-leading sixth goal of the season.
Despite recording just three corner kicks to eight for the Knights, the Cavaliers seemed to be in control of the action, outshooting Neumann 13-5 in the opening stanza. The Blue and White created several solid scoring chances but missed the target on its shots.
Cabrini carried its 1-0 lead into the second half, as Neumann pushed to tie the score. The Knight earned five second half corner kicks and outshot the Cavaliers 11-4, but could not manage to put a shot on goal in the second 45 minutes.
