HACKETTSTOWN, NJ – The Cabrini men's soccer team found its offense today, as it recorded four goals in a 15 minute span of the second half in the Cavaliers' 5-0 victory at Centenary University.
Today's five goals matched a season high, as Cabrini's defense extended its shutout streak to 370 minutes.
The win pushed the Blue and White's win streak to four matches and improved the club to 4-7-1 and a perfect 4-0 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference.
Cabrini took the lead in the 31st minute, when sophomore
Andre Justin's pass found freshman
John Griffin's head for the rookie's first goal of the season. Justin and junior
Matt Ochman were credited with assists, as Ochman's throw-in began the scoring play.
Five of the Cavaliers' six first half shots were on target, but Centenary goaltender Devon Warne recorded five saves before the half to keep Cabrini's lead at 1-0 after 45 minutes.
The Blue and White took control of the match in the second half, outshooting the Cyclones 12-3.
Griffin netted his second goal of the afternoon in the 66th minute, after collecting a Justin pass and beating Warne one-on-one.
Fellow freshman
Josh Cunningham joined in the scoring in the 74th minute, as the rookie was on the business end of a direct kick service from senior
Ben Roda.
Roda added a goal of his own five minutes later, after dribbling down the right flank and beating Warne.
The Cavaliers closed the scoring less than a minute later, when senior
Joe Fiore's pass found sophomore
Kostas Slikas, who elevated for a bicycle kick.
Ochman led the Blue and White with three shots, while four Cavaliers added two each. Sophomore
Mike Gould recorded two saves to earn the victory.
Justin White led Centenary (4-5-1, 3-1 CSAC) with four of its nine shots, while Warne finished with 10 saves.
The Cavaliers will try to extend their win streak on Wednesday, as they welcome Neumann University to Edith Robb Dixon Field. Game time is scheduled for 7pm.
