Balanced Scoring Leads Men's Basketball to 88-72 Win over Randolph

FREDERICKSBURG, VA – The Cabrini men's basketball team rebounded from Saturday's disappointing performance to score an 88-72 win over Randolph College in the consolation game of the University of Mary Washington Hyatt Place Tipoff Tournament.

Five Cavaliers scored double figures today, as the Blue and White improved to 2-1 on the young season.

Senior Tyheim Monroe, who was named to the All-Tournament Team, led Cabrini with 27 points and 17 rebounds, marking his third double-double in as many games. Sophomore Keith Blassingale added 17 points and six boards.

Senior Deryl Bagwell stuffed the stat sheet with 13 points, nine rebounds, three assists, two blocked shots and a steal. Freshman DJ Smith and junior Ivan Robinson added 12 and 11 points, respectively, and combined for 6-13 from three point range.

A pair of Robinson three pointers marked the first six points of the game, as the Cavaliers pushed their lead to 20-9 on a Blassingale triple with 12:22 left in the stanza.

Randolph rallied back, tying the score at 29 at the 4:33 mark and took a 36-35 lead two minutes later. The lead was short-lived as Robinson connected on two free throws on Cabrini's next possession.

Despite shooting just 11-30 from the field in the first half, the Blue and White carried a slim 40-38 lead into the second half.

Cabrini took control of the game in the opening minutes of the second half, as the Cavaliers opened the stanza on an 11-2 spurt, extending their lead to 51-40 on a Bagwell three point play.

Minutes later, a Monroe dunk spurred the Cavaliers to an 11-0 run as the lead swelled to 64-46 on a pair of back to back triples by Blassingale.

Sammy Hooper and AJ Marshall combined for 25 points and 10 rebounds off the bench for Randolph (0-3), while a trio of WildCats posted nine points each.

The Cavaliers have a few days to relax before they return to action on Wednesday, November 29. The Blue and White will open its home slate with a visit from No. 24 Scranton (1-1) at 8pm.
