RADNOR, PA – The Cabrini volleyball team secured a 10th consecutive Colonial States Athletic Conference championship match appearance with tonight's 3-0 win over Notre Dame of Maryland University.
The top seeded Cavaliers improved to 28-6 with tonight's 25-9, 25-7, 26-24 tournament semifinal victory.
The Blue and White will face a familiar foe in Saturday's title match, as it will meet second seeded Neumann for the seventh time in the last 10 seasons.
A focused Cabrini squad took the Nerney Field House parquet tonight, as the Cavaliers and Gators matched-up for the second time in seven days.
The Blue and White wasted little time in taking control of the action. Cabrini hit .286 and .385 in the first two sets, recording just three total attack errors.
Junior
Emily Shannon stepped to the service line with Cabrini leading 10-6 in the opening frame and served the Cavaliers to eight consecutive points and a commanding 18-6 lead. Despite momentarily losing serve, Cabrini closed the set winning five of the final six points.
The second set played much like the first, with Cabrini taking an early lead and never releasing the gas pedal. Freshman
Olivia Blankenbiller served the Cavaliers to seven straight points before Shannon recorded six straight and a 23-23-5 lead.
The Gators mounted a comeback in the third set, taking advantage of 13 Blue and White attack errors. Cabrini pushed its lead as high as 19-12 before Notre Dame made its push.
The Gators took advantage of three consecutive service aces by freshman Sarah Sweet to even the score at 24 before a pair of kills by freshman
Morgan Collito brought the night to a close.
Collito led the Cavaliers with 10 kills and nine digs, while senior
Anne-Marie Jones added nine kills. Blankenbiller closed the night with 29 assists, while junior
Ashley Shannon recorded a match high 20 digs.
Emily Shannon added a season high four service aces.
Sweet led the Gators (23-7) with eight kills, while sophomore Kayleigh Davis posted 14 digs. Senior Jamie Reyes tallied 17 assists in the loss.
Neumann (16-21) made its reservation for Saturday's title tilt with a 3-0 (25-20, 25-18, 25-12) win over Keystone. Melanie Malseed paired 17 kills and 10 digs for the Knights, while Rachel Cray added 33 assists and 11 digs.
The Cavaliers and Knights have met twice already this season, with Cabrini taking both matches. Judkins and
Emily Shannon combined for 27 kills and 40 digs to lead Cabrini to a 3-1 (28-26, 25-23, 22-25, 25-18) win at the Muhlenberg Buttermaker Tournament on Sept. 8.
The Blue and White rolled to a 28-26, 25-13, 25-22 win at Neumann in the teams' conference meeting on Oct. 11. Judkins paired 14 kills and 16 digs in the victory.
