Field Hockey Falls in CSAC Championship Game

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA – The Cavaliers' drive for a third consecutive Colonial States Athletic Conference field hockey title fell short today, as Cabrini suffered a 3-0 loss at Gwynedd Mercy in the conference championship game.

The loss ends the Blue and White's season at 8-10. It also closes the careers of its 13 seniors who led the Cavaliers to two of the program's four CSAC championships.

The class of Alexandra Swallow, Maddy Worley, Jackie Neary, Alexia Paglia, Victoria Marchiani, Ryan Taylor, Sara Johnsen, Emily Town, Megan McLoughlin, Sara DeVita, Jess Tennett, Brittany Smith and Taylor Bookman have led the program to 45 victories, including a 24-4 record in conference games, while accumulating a total of 77 goals, 56 assists and 346 saves.

The Cavaliers could not find their offensive rhythm today, as the Griffins' offensive attack kept the Blue and White focused on the defensive end.

The game remained scoreless until the 31st minute, when GMercyU's Brittany O'Connell finished a penalty stroke for the first of her three goals on the day.

The Cavaliers saw their deficit grow in the early minutes of the second half, as senior Melissa Russo found O'Connell on a penalty corner for a 2-0 lead.

The Griffins completed the scoring in the 44th minute, as O'Connell completed a second penalty stroke.

The Cavaliers recorded just two shots on the day, both coming off Neary's stick.

Bookman may have played her best game in the Cabrini cage today, as the senior recorded 15 saves, just one off her career high.

O'Connell was named MVP of the championship game after notching eight of the Griffins' 22 shots.
