Cavaliers Push Win Streak to Four With 60-55 Victory Over Pioneers

Radnor, PA - The Cabrini women's basketball team picked up their fourth consecutive win tonight as they downed the William Paterson Pioneers by a 60-55 final.

Senior Sabrina Hackendorn stuffed the stat sheet in her 23 minutes of action as the veteran tallied 16 points, 11 rebounds and four steals to pick up her first double-double of the season. Freshman Lexi Edwards led all scorers with 18 points on 6-of-9 shooting, while also adding four steals of her own. Sophomore Meghan Matthews snagged 11 rebounds, marking her second double digit rebounding performance of the season.

Despite nearly committing a season high in turnovers, the Cavs held the Pioneers at bay across all 40 minutes of action due to stifling defense themselves. The Blue and White forced 21 turnovers, tallied 14 steals and tied a season high with seven blocks on the night. The Cavs converted those 21 turnovers into 21 points, as they held a 21-to-14 advantage in points off turnovers.

The Pioneers opened up the scoring with four quick points, but quickly found themselves playing from behind after a 14-0 run from the Cavaliers, highlighted by an and-one in transition from Edwards.

Holding a 21-13 lead heading into the second quarter, the Blue and White struggled to generate a rhythm offensively as they hit just 3-of-14 shots from the field and committed eight turnovers. Freshman Ashley Tutzauer picked up the first points of her young career as she knocked down a three with two minutes left in the half to put the Cavs up 30-18.

Coming out of the intermission, the Blue and White knocked down a flurry of shots to balloon the lead to a game high 18 points with just over three minutes left in the quarter. The Pioneers would not go down without a fight, however as they ripped off a 15-to-4 run to bring the score to 49-42 heading into the final stanza.

A three from Pioneer junior Alisa Giordano just 20 seconds into the quarter cut the Cavs lead to just four as the Pioneers captured the momentum. William Paterson worked the score back to just a three point defect, but that is as close as they would get. A pair of layups from Hackendorn put a halt to the Pioneers run and sealed the game in favor of the Blue and White.

With the win the Cavs improve to 6-2 on the season and hold steady at 2-0 in the CSAC. They will be back in action on December 30th when they welcome Eastern University, Rowan University and Widener University to the Cabrini University Holiday Classic. Eastern and Rowan will open the classic at 2pm, while the Cavs host Widener for the 4pm game.
