LANGHORNE, PA – The Cavaliers used a late 9-2 spurt to pull away from the Cairn Highlanders to score an 80-70 road victory tonight.
The Blue and White's fourth consecutive win improved the squad to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference.
Senior
Tyheim Monroe took his spot in the CSAC history book tonight, as the senior paired 24 points and 20 rebounds, his sixth double-double of the season and fifth career 20 point, 20 rebound performance.
Tonight's 20th board came with just south of two minutes to play and marked the 1,157th rebound of his career, breaking the league's mark of 1,156, previously held by Badou Gaye (Gwynedd-Mercy 2001-05).
Monroe was one of three Cavaliers to record double figure scoring. Fellow senior
Deryl Bagwell's all-around game was on display, as the senior scored 18 points on 9-13 shooting, grabbed 11 rebounds, handed out seven assists, recorded three steals and blocked two shots.
Freshman
DJ Smith hit three three pointers en route to 11 points, his fourth consecutive game with at least 10 points.
The Highlanders built an early lead and led by as many as seven points on a jumper by Jordan Koczman at the 15:37 mark. Cairn maintained its lead for the game's first seven minutes, but a lay-up by junior
Mike Doyle capped an 8-0 spurt to give Cabrini its first lead of the night at 14-13.
While the lead swung back and forth over the remainder of the first half, the Blue and White scored nine of the final 11 points of the stanza, with a Monroe triple sending Cabrini to the half with a 43-35 halftime lead.
The Cavaliers extended their lead early in the second half on a lay-up by sophomore
Keith Blassingale, but Cairn would not allow Cabrini to pull away.
The Highlanders responded with nine quick points to take a slim 48-47 lead, but one its next possession, Cabrini regained its lead, as junior

The Blue and White never relinquished its lead, despite the Highlanders' best efforts. Cairn pulled within two points several times, the final coming at 63-61 with 5:44 to play.
Monroe answered with nine consecutive points for the Blue and White, building a 72-63 lead with just 3:14 on the clock.
Robinson finished the night with eight points, five assists and three steals, while Blassingale added eight points. Lawhorn and Doyle chipped in with eight points each.
Malachi Hall recorded a triple double for Cairn (3-4, 0-2 CSAC), pairing 20 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists. Koczman added 16 points and 10 boards.
The Cavaliers will return to action on Saturday, as they visit Gwynedd Mercy (5-1, 2-0 CSAC). Tip is slated for 1pm in Gwynedd Valley, PA.
