Langhorne, PA - The Cabrini women's basketball team continued their hot play as they picked up a decisive 59-40 victory on the road over CSAC foe Cairn University this evening.
The Blue and White were paced by junior
Nomi Washington and freshman
Kate Lannon who each tallied 16 points. Washington added six rebounds and five steals, while Lannon chipped in five boards and two assists.
Fellow freshman
Lexi Edwards also tallied double digits with 10 points of her own in 22 minutes of action.
Despite a cold first half in which the Cavs shot just 8-of-31 (25.8%) from the field, including 1-of-13 (7.7%) from beyond the arc, they held a 25-17 advantage on the scoreboard. Washington, Lannon and sophomore
Meghan Matthews combined for 18 of those 25 points.
Solid free throw shooting proved pivotal for the Blue and White during that first half as the aforementioned trio of Washington, Lannon and Matthews, along with senior
Sabrina Hackendorn, combined to go a perfect 8-of-8 from the charity stripe.
Up 25-17, the Cavs came out of the break hot as Lannon drilled a three ball on the team's opening possession to extend the lead to 11. A pair of free throws from the Highlanders briefly cut their deficit back to nine, but back-to-back layups from Lannon extended the Cavs' lead to 13.
Washington and Edwards seemingly put the nail in the coffin as their back-to-back threes put an exclamation on Cabrini's 13-2 run to open the second half and balloon the lead to 38-19.
The Blue and White were able to coast to their fourth win of the season thanks to the dominating third quarter.
With the victory, the Blue and White improve to 4-2 overall and 2-0 in conference play. They will next square off against Susquehanna University this Saturday when they travel to Selinsgrove, PA for a 2pm start.
