Late Run Propels Women's Basketball to 64-60 Victory Over Susquehanna

Selinsgrove, PA - The Cabrini women's basketball team used a late 12-2 run in the fourth quarter to secure a thrilling 64-60 victory over the Susquehanna University River Hawks this evening.

With the win the Cavs improve to 5-2 overall and hold steady at 2-0 in the conference.

Junior Nomi Washington led all scorers with 20 points on 8-of-17 shooting, while senior Sabrina Hackendorn and freshman Kate Lannon tallied 12 points each. Sophomore Cassidy Gallagher chipped in 11 points and four rebounds.

The Blue and White held a distinct advantage in free throws on the night as they made 25 trips to the line compared to just 13 for the River Hawks. The visiting Cavs put those free throws to good use, converting on 18-of-25 attempts, giving them a needed boost offensively as they shot just 33.3% from the field.

Cabrini opened the first quarter with a 12-to-5 run, highlighted by three consecutive buckets from Washington, one of which came from beyond the arc. Seven of Washington's 12 first half points came in the opening four minutes of the game. Susquehanna responded, however as they rattled off a 10-4 run to end the quarter trailing by just one, 16-15.

Neither team was able to gain ground on the other in the second quarter, with Cabrini holding the largest of the quarter at five points coming with eight minutes left. The Blue and White received a big boost heading into the half as Washington knocked down a three as time expired off a feed from freshman Lexi Edwards

The River Hawks managed to build a slight 50-48 lead after the third quarter thanks to baskets from five different players, including eight points from junior Baily Trell as they outscored the Cavs 19-14 over the 10 minutes.

Susquehanna pushed their lead to a game high six points in the final stanza with just over five minutes remaining, but the Blue and White would respond in a big way. Led by Hackendorn's six points, the Cavaliers mounted a 12-2 run over the final five minutes of play to stun the hosts and walk away with a 64-60 victory.

The Cavaliers will next take on William Paterson University when they welcome the Pioneers to Nerney Field House on Tuesday, December 19th. Game time is slated for 5pm.
