Monroe Joins Elite Club in Men's Basketball Win at Clarks Summit

CLARKS SUMMIT, PA - Junior Tyheim Monroe joined an exclusive club today, as the Cabrini men's basketball team scored a 90-75 victory at Clarks Summit University.

With the win, the Cavaliers improved to 18-5 and 14-2 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference.  With two game left in the regular season, the Blue and White remain in second place, one game behind Neumann.

Monroe paced the Cavaliers in today's win, pairing 17 points and 13 rebounds to go with four assists and two steals. The junior secured his 13th board with 5:17 left in the game, marking his 1,000th career rebound.

Monroe became just the fifth player in CSAC history and is one of just five players in Divisions I, II and III to reach the career mark. The junior reached the milestone in just 75 games , for a career average of 13.3 boards per contest.

The Blue and White boasted six players in double figures in today's win.  Senior Ryan Charity led the Cavaliers with 18 points. Junior Deryl Bagwell added 11 points, seven rebounds and five assists, while classmate Joe Mostardi matched Bagwell's 11 points.

The Defenders scored the first seven points of the game before the Cavaliers answered, evening the score at 14-14. Junior Kane McGovern drained a three pointer to cap a 13-4 Cabrini run to give the Cavaliers a 27-18 lead.

Sophomore Anthony Wright-Downing completed a three point play in the final minute of the first half to extend the lead to 12 points.  Clarks Summit answered with a three pointer of its own, before junior DeVahnte Mosley's lay-up gave Cabrini a 44-33 lead at the half.

Just as Clarks Summit did to open the game, Cabrini scored the first seven points of the second half, pushing its lead to 18 points. Bagwell hit Mostardi for another triple with 17 minutes to play, giving the Blue and White a 59-38 lead.

Minutes later, the Defenders mounted a comeback, pulling within 62-51 on a 10-3 run. Six consecutive Cabrini points gave the Cavaliers a more comfortable 70-53 cushion on Charity's fast break lay-up.

Mosley and freshman Keith Blassingale finished the day with 10 points each, while Wright-Downing and McGovern added seven and six points each.

The Cavaliers outrebounded the Defenders 52-36 and converted 14 Clarks Summit turnovers into 14 points.

Nick Peter led Clarks Summit (1-22, 0-16 CSAC) with 21 points and six rebounds, while John McCloskey added 20 points, six boards and five assists.

The Cavaliers will hit the road on Wednesday, when they travel to Aston, PA to face No. 15 Neumann University (21-2, 15-1 CSAC). A victory would put Cabrini in a tie for first place in the league standings.  Game time is slated for 7pm.
