CLARKS SUMMIT, PA - Cabrini women's basketball came away with their 11th conference victory Saturday afternoon, defeating the Clarks Summit Defenders by a score of 64-30.
The Cavs set the tone early, using a huge 18-3 run that spanned the entirety of the opening quarter, forcing four turnovers on the Defenders first six possessions in the process. The victory pushes the Cavaliers record to 13-10 overall and 11-3 in conference play.
The Blue and White had three players register at least 14 points in
Myonie Williamson (19 points),
Renee Oliver (16 points), and
Erin Dodds (14 points). Williamson led all scorers while also adding six rebounds and three steals. Oliver picked up her third double-double in as many games, hauling in 13 boards.
As mentioned, the Cavaliers opened the game on a torrid run, to the tune of 18-3. Dodds (8 points) and Oliver (6 points) combined for 14 of the Cavs first 18 points on 6-11 shooting from the field.
After a quick jumper by the Defenders Mollie Comstock to open the second quarter, the Blue and White answered with a 9-0 run with six of those points coming off the hand of Williamson. Leading 27-5 with four minutes left in the first half, the Cavs hit a cold stretch as they would miss their next six shots. Looking the capitalize, Torri Erdman notched back-to-back baskets for the Defenders to cut the lead to 27-10.
The Cavaliers would hold the momentum heading into halftime, however, thanks to two lay ups in the closing minute from Dodds and
Gaby Jones.
A big third quarter from the Blue and White ultimately pushed this game out of reach for the host Defenders. Eight points in the quarter by Williamson paced the Cavs offense; an offense that would go on to score 20 points in the quarter and 33 in the second half.
The Cavs success derived from their ability to penetrate and drive to the basket, recording 40 of their 64 points from the paint, compared to the Defenders' six points. The Cavs also took advantage of their opponents mistakes, converting 29 Clarks Summit turnovers into 28 points.
Erdman led the scoring for the Defenders with 14 points, with Comstock chipping in five points.
Cabrini will look to continue their hot play and push their win streak to four games when it squares off against Keystone College on Wednesday, February 15. Game time is slated for 6:30pm.
