RADNOR, PA - The Cavaliers rolled to their fourth consecutive victory Wednesday night, defeating Keystone College 84-51.
The Blue and White shot 50% (33-66) from the field and 53.8% (7-13) from beyond the arc in tonight's CSAC matchup. Hot shooting coupled with tough defense allowed Cabrini to jump out to an early lead; a lead they would not relinquish for the remainder of the game. Tonight's victory pushes the Cavs record to 14-10 and 12-3 in conference play.
As mentioned, the Cavaliers hot shooting carried over from their last game into tonight's action, as four players recorded double-digit point totals.
Nomi Washington led the way for the Cavaliers finishing with a game high 19 points, as well as chipping in six assists and five steals.
Renee Oliver had her streak of three consecutive double-doubles snapped, but still managed to finish with 17 points, a new career high, and added six rebounds.
Erin Dodds finished with 16 points and six assists, the latter matching her career high. Not to be outdone,
Myonie Williamson posted the only double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
From the opening tip the Blue and White were in rhythm, hitting seven of their first eight shots and quickly opening up an 18-6 lead. Five straight points from
Cassidy Gallagher followed by a late layup from Williamson pushed the score to 25-8 at the end of the first quarter.
Two minutes into the second, the Blue and White opened a 23 point lead thanks to a three from Dodds. The Giants would respond, however, outscoring the Cavs 17-14 throughout the remainder of the second quarter, only to find themselves still trailing 44-27.
The second half saw much of the same for the Cavaliers as they continued to rack up the points. Oliver specifically, did most of her damage in the second half, posting 12 points as well as grabbing five of her six rebounds in just 12 minutes of action. The Cavs would go on to extend the lead to a game high 36 points, ultimately putting the Giants away for good.
The key for the Cavaliers during their hot stretch stems from their defense. In the last four games alone, the Cavs have forced 108 turnovers, an average of 27 per game.
Tonight was no different as they forced exactly 27 and converted those into 25 points, compared to Keystone's 11 points off turnovers. Furthermore, more than half of the 25 points the Blue and White scored off of turnovers came via the fast break (14).
Nina Hodanich and Bryce Garrett finished in double figures for the visiting Giants, collecting 14 points and 10 points, respectively.
The Cavs will round out their regular season on Saturday, February 18 as Gwynedd Mercy will travel to the friendly confines of tNerney Field House. Game time is slated for 2pm with the men's regular season finale scheduled for 4pm.
