COLLEGEVLLE, PA –  The Cavaliers could not sustain their offensive attack in the second half today, as the Cabrini women's lacrosse team suffered a 15-13 loss at Ursinus College in the season opener for both teams.

After recording 10 first half goals, the Blue and White marked the scoring column just three times in the second half, despite outshooting the Bears 14-12 in the second stanza.

Sophomores Liz Hoeffner and Avery Murphy led the Cavaliers with four points each, as the duo combined for five goals and three assists.  Murphy also earned game-high honors with five draw controls.

Junior Jackie Neary matched Hoeffner with three goals and joined Murphy and senior goaltender Megan Barlow with two caused turnovers each.

Barlow suffered the loss despite recording five saves and a securing a team high five ground balls.

The Bears opened the scoring less than three minutes after the opening whistle, but Neary responded with a free position goal to even the score.  Ursinus added three consecutive goals before Nearys second of the day ended the Bears' run.

Trailing 5-2 with 12 minutes left in the first half, the Blue and White found its offensive rhythm.  Cabrini tallied six consecutive goals over the next seven minutes, with  Murphy and Hoeffner combining for two goals and three assists during the spurt. Freshman Lauren Hughes' first collegiate goal ended the run, as the Cavaliers built an 8-5 lead with 4:14 left in the half.

Ursinus responded with three goals in a 30 second span to even the game at 8-8 at the 2:38 mark.  Hoeffner and senior Jess Breuning closed the opening stanza with their second goals of the day to give the Blue and White a 10-8 halftime lead.

The Bears regained control immediately after the second half whistle, scoring five unanswered goals, with the first coming 14 seconds into the stanza.

Cabrini ended the Ursinus run with two goals of its own, as Murphy and Hoeffner scored unassisted goals in a span of 16 seconds to pull the Blue and White to within 13-12 with 18:36 to play.
