Men's Basketball Rolls to 84-67 Win over Cairn

RADNOR, PA – The Cavaliers used a dominant first half performance to score an 84-67 victory over the visiting Cairn University Highlanders tonight at Nerney Field House.

With the win, the Blue and White improve to 17-5 overall and 13-2 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference.

Two Cavaliers recorded double-doubles, with another narrowly missing the mark.  Junior Tyheim Monroe paired 22 points and 20 rebounds for his second 20-20 game of the season. The junior also tallied five assists, a steal and a blocked shot in 39 minutes of action.

Fellow junior DeVahnte Mosley added 19 points on 6-11 shooting from the field and 6-6 from the free throw line to go with 10 rebounds.  Classmate Deryl Bagwell chipped in with 16 points, nine boards and four steals.

Cabrini shot a blistering .500 from the field in the opening 20 minutes, building a comfortable 46-25 halftime lead.  The Cavaliers used runs of 7-0 and 8-0 to push an early lead to double figures on a steal and lay-up by freshman Keith Blassingale midway through the half.

The Blue and White continued to push the pace, as a 13-2 spurt late in the stanza extended the lead to 42-19 with less than 90 seconds left in the half.

The Cavaliers forced 11 first half turnovers and converted them into 15 points and recorded 10 fast break points to zero for the Highlanders.

Most telling was Cabrini's dominance of the paint.  The Cavaliers outscored Cairn 24-2 in the lane in the opening 20 minutes and built a 29-19 rebounds advantage.

The Highlanders found their collective shooting touch during the break, connecting on .556 in the second half.  Cairn knocked down 7-12 from three point range to scratch and claw its way back into the game.

Back to back Cairn triples pulled the Highlanders to within 71-62 with just north of six minutes to play, but the Cavaliers responded with five consecutive points to regain a more comfortable 14 point cushion with 4:28 to play.

Sophomore Zachary Dolton led Cairn (5-17, 3-12 CSAC) with 19 points, including 14 in the second half, while senior Gerroid Doughty II added 11 points off the bench.

The Blue and White will hit the road on Saturday, as they head north to Clarks Summit, Pa.  The Cavaliers will meet the Clarks Summit University Defenders at 3pm.
