Cavaliers Use Strong First Half to Top Highlanders 65-42

RADNOR, PA - The Cavaliers women's basketball team caused 16 first-half turnovers in Wednesday night's 65-42 home victory over the Cairn Highlanders.

The win marks the second in a row for the Cavs and pushes their record to 12-10 overall and 10-3 in conference play. Every victory is needed as they find themselves in a four way tie for second place in the conference standings.

Renee Oliver continued her torrid stretch for the Blue and White as she led all scorers with 13 points, while pulling in 12 rebounds in the process. Tonight's effort marks her sixth double-double on the season as well as the 14th time she has reached double-digit points. The Scotch Plains, NJ native is averaging 14 points and nine rebounds over the previous three contests. Myonie Williamson and Nomi Washington added 11 and 10 points respectively.

The Highlanders opened the scoring with a quick basket from Aigner Brookard, but the Cavaliers responded with an 11-2 run started by Washington's three pointer. After the Highlanders Charlotte Camp hit a jumper to cut the lead to 11-6, the Blue and White rattled off a 9-2 run to end the quarter.

Back-to-back baskets from Gaby Jones extended the Cavs lead to 24-8 early in the second quarter. The Highlanders started to find their rhythm late in the second quarter thanks to baskets by Madelyn Brodish and a three pointer coming off the hand of EJ Hartzler with just 12 seconds remaining. The Cavs, however held a commanding 39-21 lead at halftime.

The second half saw a more competitive contest, due in large part to the Cavs going cold from beyond the arc. The aforementioned cold touch from deep, combined with the Highlanders continuing the crash the boards, made it difficult for the Blue and White to put its opponent away, but after swapping baskets for much of the third quarter, the Cavs were able to push the lead up to a game high 26 points with just over seven minutes remaining in fourth. Two free throws by Jones capped the scoring for Cabrini and sent the Highlanders home with their third consecutive conference loss.

The Cavaliers once again capitalized on their opponents mistakes, picking up 25 points off of 29 turnovers compared to Highlanders eight points off of turnovers. This marks the fourth game out of the last five that the Cavs have forced at least 20 turnovers.

Cabrini will look to push their win streak to three when they travel to Clarks Summit this Saturday at 1pm.
