RADNOR, PA - The Cabrini softball team opened its home slate today with a pair of wins over conference foe Keystone. The Blue and White scored an 11-10 win in extra innings before topping the Giants 6-3 in the nightcap. With today's wins, the Cavaliers improve to 3-9 on the year and 2-0 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference.
Game One
After allowing a Keystone run in the first, the Blue and White evened the score in the third as senior
Taylor Mack crossed home plate on an infield error.
A leadoff homer in the fourth put the Giants back on top. The lead didn't last long, as the Cavaliers responded with three runs on three hits in the bottom half.
With two outs and two runners on base, junior
Alexandria Ramos' single past the shortstop plated senior
Taylor Gallagher, while senior
Amber Dietrich scored on Mack's single up the middle. Mack was caught stealing but was able to draw enough attention to allow Ramos to steal home before accepting the final out in the inning.
The Giants regained the lead once again, as four runs in the fourth and three runs in the sixth gave the Giants a 9-4 lead.
Cabrini rallied for four runs on four hits to pull to within one run in the bottom of the sixth inning. A pair of doubles opened the inning for the Cavaliers, as senior
Lindsay Savar crossed home plate on Gallagher's double down the left field line.
Gallagher and Dietrich both scored on Ramos' double to right field and later scored on a Cavaliers groundout.
The Blue and White defense was able to hold the Giants scoreless in the seventh, while its offense sprung for one run on one hit to tie it up at 9-9 in the bottom half.
Keystone was able to score the go ahead run in extra innings but the Cavaliers answered with a pair of runs in the bottom half to complete the comeback and end the conference thriller.
With the bases loaded and no outs, freshman
Alexandra Schell doubled to center field, as Dietrich and Ramos scored to claim the team's second victory on the season.
Schell and Ramos led the team with four RBI, two apiece, while Ramos and Dietrich each scored three times for the Blue and White. Gallagher picked up the win in the circle after tossing 2.1 innings and holding the Giants to one unearned run.
Game Two
Keystone jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the nightcap, with runs in the first and second innings.
Sophomore
Marissa Alpaugh sparked the Cavaliers' offense in the third with a solo home run to left field but the Giants answered with a solo homer in the fourth to take a 3-1 lead.
In the bottom of the fourth, Dietrich scored on Ramos' sacrifice fly.
It was all Cabrini the rest of the way, as RBI doubles from Alpaugh, Giordano and Dietrich gave the Blue and White a commanding 6-3 lead.
The Giants were unable to score again as sophomore
Jenna Rodriguez earned the win in the circle. The sophomore pitched a complete game, allowing two earned runs on seven hits, while Alpaugh went 3-4 at the plate and finished with two RBI.
Cabrini will look to stay in the win column on Wednesday, as the Blue and White hosts The College of New Jersey (7-5). The first pitch of the doubleheader is set for 3 pm.
