EWING, NJ – The Cavaliers fell behind early and never gained their footing, as the Cabrini women's lacrosse team suffered an 18-5 loss at No 5 The College of New Jersey.
The Loss dropped the Blue and White to 1-2 on the year, while the Lions improved to 3-0.
Sophomore
Liz Hoeffner led the Cavaliers with two goals, while juniors
Jackie Neary and
Sasha Wozniak and sophomore
Avery Murphy tallied one goal each.
Murphy controlled a game high six draws, three more than sophomore
Emma Rodner-Tims. Junior
Gabby Lee and sophomore
Katie Kucia caused two turnovers each.
Wozniak and Kucia also scooped three ground balls, while Lee and Murphy secured two each
Senior goaltender
Megan Barlow paired a caused turnover and a ground ball, while sophomore
Devon Scharf recorded two saves and a ground ball.
TCNJ took control of the game in the early seconds, opening the scoring just 13 seconds after the opening whistle. The Lions posted six goals before Murphy put the Cavaliers on the board with a free position goal at the 20:52 mark.
Wozniak and Hoeffner marked the scorebook with 10 minutes left in the opening half, as the Cavaliers trailed 12-3 at the half.
Neary converted a free position shot early in the second half, while Hoeffner's second goal came in the game's final minutes.
The Blue and White attempted 13 shots on the night, with Hoeffner, Wozniak and senior
Jess Breuning recording three each.
Kathleen Jaeger led TCNJ with five goals and six points, while Elizabeth Morrison paired five caused turnovers and four ground balls.
Cabrini will look to get back in the win column on Tuesday, when it opens Colonial States Athletic Conference play at Rosemont College. Game time is slated for 4pm.
