ALLENTOWN, PA - The Cabrini Cavaliers softball team took on the Cedar Crest Falcons today at Cynthia L. Blaschak Field. The Cavaliers fell 14-0 in five innings in game one, before bouncing back for a 6-3 win in game two.
The Blue and White advances to 13-17 on the year and 11-3 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference following today's split.
Cedar Crest recorded a pair of runs in the first and second innings, three runs in the third and seven in the fourth. The Falcons tallied 17 hits in the shutout, while holding the Cavaliers to just three.
Senior
Amber Dietrich and juniors
Jess Giordano and
Alexandria Ramos combined for all three of the Blue and White's hits. Giordano allowed 13 earned runs in four innings, as the junior fell to 7-7 in the circle.
The Falcons opened game two with a pair of runs in the first inning but Cabrini evened the score in the third.
With two outs, sophomore
Chrissy Ferraro made her way to first base on a bunt single. Sophomore
Marissa Alpaugh's RBI double to center field the following at bat plated Ferraro. Alpaugh scored the next at bat, as Giordano's RBI single found left field.
The Cavaliers surrendered the Falcons' last run of the evening in the bottom half, before retaking the lead with two runs in the fifth and sixth innings.
Alpaugh opened the fifth inning with a single to center field. Giordano followed with a double, while Alpaugh advanced to third. Two batters later, junior
Emily Smull's sacrifice fly to left field advanced the runners. Sophomore
Darian Caputo's RBI single to center field gave Cabrini the 4-3 lead.
In the sixth inning, senior
Taylor Mack recorded a one out triple and scored on Ferraro's fielder's choice. Alpaugh doubled and scored on a Giordano single to left field the next at bat.
Smull earned her fourth win after tossing a complete game. The junior surrendered just three runs on eight hits, while adding four strike outs in the win. Alpaugh, Giordano and Caputo combined for nine of the Cavaliers' 15 hits in the nightcap.
Cabrini will travel to Notre Dame of Maryland University (4-15-1, 3-9 CSAC) on Friday for a doubleheader beginning at 3pm.
