Missed Opportunities Doom Diamond Cavs

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA - The Cavaliers out hit the Griffins on the afternoon but left a total of 10 runners on base as they dropped their fifth straight game.

With the loss the Cavs fall to 9-14 overall and 3-10 in the CSAC. While the Blue and White have enjoyed success at the friendly confines of Cabrini Carroll Field, it has been the opposite when they are forced to travel. A 7-3 mark at home compared to an 0-7 mark on the road highlights the Cavaliers' struggles. This afternoons game, unfortunately continued the trend.

Starter Josh Breittholz turned in a solid effort as the junior lasted 6.1 and allowed five earned runs, with three of those coming in his final inning of work. Alex Del Giudice had himself a night at the dish going a perfect 4-4. Tyler Norris (2-5, 1RBI) and Shaun Stackhouse (3-4, 1R) were the other Cavs to turn in a multi-hit performance. Dylan Butler and Casey Plunkett each picked up a hit a piece.

The Cavs opened up the scoring in the top of the second with an RBI single off the bat of Plunkett to score Colin Birzes. After Jake Dohar was hit by a pitch, the Blue and White looked to be in business as they had the bases loaded with just one out. Gwynedd starter Zach Dennis escaped the early jam as he rolled a double play ball off the bat of Michael Mescia

The Griffins evened things at one in their half of the frame with an RBI single from Tommy Nardini.

After a clean third inning from both sides, the Griffins struck again in the bottom of the fourth Justin Curtin scored off a wild pitch to make it 2-1.

Gwynedd tacked on two more in the sixth and seventh to extend their lead to 6-1. The Cavaliers would push across their last run of the game in the top of the ninth as Norris picked up his ninth RBI and third double of the season with one swing of the bat to close the scoring at 6-2.

Cabrini will look to turn things around as Gwynedd Mercy travels to Cabrini Carroll Field for a double header beginning at noon.
