RADNOR, PA - It was a big day for the Cabrini softball team, as the Blue and White swept the Centenary Cyclones on Senior Day. The Cavaliers earned 12-5 and 3-0 wins over the Cyclones to improve to 17-19 overall and 15-5 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference.
In between games, seniors
Lindsay Savar,
Amber Dietrich,
Taylor Mack and
Taylor Gallagher were honored by the club and the home crowd. The quartet has combined to lead the club to 94 wins, including a 70-16 mark in CSAC play and has made three straight appearances in the CSAC championship games. Savar, Dietrich, Mack and Gallagher have combined for 520 hits, 332 runs, 51 home runs and 290 RBI.
After a scoreless first inning, Gallagher's RBI double to left center plated Savar to open the scoring. A two run homer in the top of the third inning gave centenary the 2-1 lead.
In the bottom half, junior
Jess Giordano singled up the middle, as Mack crossed home plate. Sophomore
Alexandria Ramos and Dietrich followed with RBI singles, as the Cavaliers went up by a pair of runs.
In the bottom half of the fourth, Savar made program history, as the senior's three run homer tied Rita Horning's single season mark of 11 dingers set in 2002.
Trailing 7-2, the Cyclones went for three RBI in the fifth. Junior
Chrissy Ferraro extended the Cavalier lead to 8-5 in the bottom half, as the junior's RBI single found the lawn in center field.
Sophomore
Marissa Alpaugh led-off the sixth inning with a home run to left center, while Giordano followed with a double up the middle. Savar continued to add to her career totals, as the senior recorded her second homer of the ball game. The two run home run broke teh single season mark and tied the Cavaliers' career home run record of 28, also owned by Horning (2000-03). Sophomore
Darian Caputo's RBI triple before the break gave Cabrini a 12-5 lead.
Gallagher closed the game by retiring the side. The senior pitched 2.1 innings and allowed just two hits, while Giordano earned the win after tossing 4.2 innings. Nine Cavaliers combined for 18 of the club's hits in the win.
Mack opened the second game with her first round tripper of the season to give the Cavaliers a 1-0 lead. Savar's double a few batters later scored Alpaugh.
Cabrini added an insurance run in the sixth with junior
Victoria Hall's RBI double to left.
Mack, Savar and Hall combined for six of the Cavaliers' nine hits in the win, to go along with three RBI. Junior
Emily Smull pitched seven scoreless innings to help her club claim its 17th win on the year.
The Blue and White will close out its regular season at Neumann (23-13, 17-3 CSAC) on Saturday. The doubleheader is set to begin at 1pm.
