RADNOR, PA – The Cabrini women's lacrosse team took sole possession of first place in the Colonial States Athletic Conference with tonight's 18-6 victory over Immaculata University at Edith Robb Dixon Field.
The win extended the Cavaliers' win streak to eight games and improved the Blue and White to 9-2 overall and 5-0 in the conference.
Junior
Sasha Wozniak led the Cabrini offense with a season high six goals and a team high five ground balls. Today's output moved Wozniak into 10th place on the program's career points list with 178.
Sophomore
Avery Murphy match Wozniak's six points, pairing four goals and two assists. The sophomore also tallied seven ground balls and caused a pair of turnovers. Fellow sophomore
Liz Hoeffner added four goals in the win.
Senior
Jess Breuning stuffed the stat sheet with five points on two goals and three assists, five ground balls and four draw controls.
The Mighty Macs scored the game's first goal in the opening minute before the Cavaliers took control of the action. Cabrini responded with seven unanswered goals scored by six different Cavaliers.
The Blue and White also closed the first half with a flurry, as Wozniak and Murphy combined for three goals in the final two minutes to give Cabrini a comfortable 12-3 lead at the half.
Neither the dropping temperatures of the halftime break did anything to slow the Cavaliers, as they scored six consecutive goals to open the second half, extending their lead to 18-3 midway through the stanza.
The Blue and White's dominance was reflected on the stat sheet. Cabrini outshot Immaculata 51-18 on the day, including 37-14 in shots on goal, and won 18 of the game's 26 draw controls.
Defensively, Cabrini held the Mighty Macs to just 15-31 in clear attempts and forced 14 turnovers, with five Cavaliers forcing two Immaculata miscues each.
Freshman goaltender Emily Schumann was the star for the Mighty Macs (6-4, 3-1 CSAC), as the rookie recorded 19 saves and a game high eight ground balls. Freshman Layne Kennedy led Immaculata with three goals, while junior Hannah Verrecchia added three assists
The Cavaliers will step out of league play on Friday, as they welcome Rowan University (6-3) to Edith Robb Dixon Field. Game time is slated for 4pm.
