Cavs Take Two in Double Header Sweep of Centenary

RADNOR, PA - The Cavaliers put an end to their four game skid thanks to a double header sweep over CSAC foe Centenary University. The Cavs rode solid pitching performances from both game's starters, highlighted by Ryan Givens' complete game four hitter during game two, in which he struck out eight.

Game One: Cabrini 7, Centenary 4
After a three game series against Immaculata in which the Cavs scored just seven runs total, the Blue and White found their groove as they pushed across seven runs in the first four innings to earn the 7-4 victory.

Cav's starter Josh Breittholz kept the Cyclones' offense at bay as he allowed seven hits over five innings and four earned runs to pick up the victory - his fourth of the season. Andrew Del Giudice came on in the sixth in relief of Breittholz and picked up the rare six out save. The righty allowed only one hit and struck out two over his two innings of work.

The offensive out bust from the Blue and White was felt throughout the lineup as five Cavs recorded at least one hit, including multi hit efforts from Jake Dohar, Tyler Norris, and Joe Aurite

The Cavaliers struck first in the top of the first inning off of an RBI single from Norris that plated Dohar who stood on third base after he tripled down the right field line.

The top of the second saw the Cavs add another run after an error by the Cyclones' first basemen that allowed Aurite to score.

After a 1-2-3 bottom of the second from Breittholz, the offense got back to work as they pushed across four more runs to extend the lead to 6-0. A walk by Dohar followed by Dylan Butler getting hit by a pitch quickly put runners on first and second with nobody out. A single from Norris loaded the bases for Colin Birzes who delivered a clutch single down the left field line to plate Dohar and Butler, and extend the Cavs' lead to 6-0. An ensuing single from Alex Del Giudice re-loaded the bases for Aurite who picked up the RBI after working out a walk. The Blue and White pushed across their final run of the inning off the bat of Michael Mescia's double-play ball.

The Cyclones would get on the board in the bottom half of the inning thanks to a two run home run from Kevin Sensale.

An RBI single from Dohar in the top of the fourth capped the scoring for the Blue and White, but it was all they would need as Del Giudice would come on in the sixth to shut the door and earn the six out save.

Game Two: Cabrini 7, Centenary 3
Ryan Givens stole the show in game two for the Cavaliers as they 6'7" righty tossed a complete game four hitter, in which he allowed three earned runs to go along with eight strikeouts and only one walk. Givens' eight strikeouts were the most in a game from a Cavalier starter since Nicholas Gares punched out 11 against Finlandia University on February 27th.

The Cavaliers' offense posted another seven runs in game two off of 11 hits, led by Butlers three hits (3-4, 1R, 1RBI). Eight Cavs recorded a hit in the game two victory with Norris picking up his fifth multi-hit game of the season to raise his average to a team high .440.

Both the Cyclones and Cavaliers had yet to score heading into the top of the third when Vicario opened things up with a double to center. After Shaun Stackhouse was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second with one out, Vicario stole third and scored after the Cyclones' catcher made an errant down to third as he attempted to throw out Vicario. Back-to-back singles from Dohar and Butler pushed across two more runs in the inning to put the Cavs up 3-0.

It wasn't until the bottom of the fourth that the Cyclones picked up their first hit off of Givens, a single off the bat of Nick Daniele. Givens would strand the runner, however as he induced two pop outs and picked up a strikeout to end the inning.

The Blue and White tacked on three more in the top of the fifth with a Norris RBI single and a two out, two RBI single from Aurite to make it 6-0.

Centenary cut the Cavs' lead in half in the bottom half of the inning as Sean Donovan started things off with a solo shot to make it 6-1. With runners on second and third, Centenary's Jon Fleck delivered an RBI double to left field to cut it to 6-2. A balk call from home plate umpire Ryan Carlson gave the Cyclones their final run of the inning as Given struck out the next batter and induced a routine grounder to end the inning.

The Cavs would add an insurance run in the top of the seventh as Michael Suosso laid down a beautiful squeeze bunt to score Norris from third.

The double header sweep improves the Cavaliers' record to 9-9 (3-5 CSAC) on the season and they will look to climb back over the .500 mark as they travel to Centenary University tomorrow afternoon for the final game of their three game series. Game time is slated for 3pm.
