Gallagher, Smull Toss Shutouts as Softball Sweeps Cairn

LANGHORNE, PA – The Cabrini softball team paired two solid pitching efforts with a prolific offense to score a pair of wins at Cairn University this afternoon.  Cabrini's 15-0 and 10-0 wins improved the Blue and White to 11-13 overall and 9-1 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference.

The Cavaliers' offense was hot from the first pitch, as the first four batters reached base. Cabrini led 3-0 before the game's first out was recorded. The Blue and White led 5-0 before senior Taylor Gallagher tossed her first pitch.

The senior hurler had all the offense she needed, as she silenced the Highlanders' bats. Gallagher tossed a complete game, scattering five hits with seven strike outs.

The Cabrini offense went back to work in the top of the second inning, as 14 Cavaliers stepped into the batter's box. The Blue and White pushed its lead to 13-0, plating eight runs on eight hits in the frame.

Junior Alexandria Ramos went a career best 4-4 with a pair of RBI's, while junior Jess Giordano and sophomore Marissa Alpaugh went 3-3, including four RBI's from Giordano.

Gallagher helped her own cause and joined junior Chrissy Ferraro with two hits and two runs scored.

The Blue and White stayed hot in the nightcap, as sophomore Taylor Franchville's double to left center gave Cabrini a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning.

Franchville's third inning single marked the Blue and White's only base hit until the fourth inning.

Cabrini put the game away in the fourth, as it took advantage of five free walks and a pair of Cairn errors to score eight runs.  The Cavaliers recorded just three base hits in the frame, as they put the game out of reach.

Junior Emily Smull tossed a gem in her first career start. The junior surrendered just two hits over five innings with three strikeouts.

Franchville paced the Blue and White offense, accounting for three of the team's six hits and a pair of RBI's in the win.

The Cavaliers will step out of conference play on Tuesday, as they head to Division II Philadelphia University (13-16, 8-6 CACC). First pitch is scheduled for 2:30pm.
