RADNOR, PA – The Cabrini men's soccer team stayed even with No. 18 Haverford College for more than 60 minutes today at Edith Robb Dixon Field, but the Fords converted a 62nd minute penalty kick, as the Cavaliers suffered a 3-0 loss in the season-opener for both teams.
The Blue and White was outshot 17-8 on the day, with junior
Jared Irwin and freshman
John Griffin notching two shots each. Senior
Xavier Young and freshman
Ray Wilson joined Irwin and Griffin to account for Cabrini's four shots on goal.
Sophomore goaltender
Mike Gould suffered the loss despite recording nine saves in his first career start.
Both clubs played an evenly matched opening 45 minutes, combining for eight shots and six corner kicks. The Fords pulled away after the break, building a 12-5 advantage in shots, while holding the Blue and White without a corner kick.
Haverford freshman Nick Janelli scored both of his goals in a span of 2:21 of the second half, scoring the eventual game-winning penalty kick before converting a pass from junior Nicholas Montgomery for a 2-0 lead.
The Cavaliers will return to action on Sunday, as they visit Widener University (1-0) at 2pm.
