RADNOR, PA – After nine tries, the Cabrini men's soccer team finally broke into the win column, as the Cavaliers scored a 2-0 victory over Rosemont College tonight at Edith Robb Dixon Field.
Cabrini improved to 1-7-1 with tonight's Colonial States Athletic Conference opening triumph.
The Cavaliers grabbed an early lead, as senior
Ben Roda's corner kick service found the forehead of junior
Matt Ochman in the 12th minute. The goal marked the first of the junior's career.
Cabrini maintained its slim lead through the halftime break and into the second half, but in the 56th minute, a Cabrini red card gave the Ravens an extra man and some momentum.
The Cavaliers stuck to their game plan and it paid off in the 61st minute, as Roda and Ochman returned to the scorebook.
Once again, Roda's corner kick service found Ochman streaking to the back post for a diving header goal and a 2-0 lead.
Despite playing down a man for the final 35 minutes of action, the Cavaliers gave Rosemont few chances to get on the board, as just one of the Ravens' eight second half shots were on target.
Freshman
Anthony Zampirri recorded three saves to earn his first career shutout, while junior
Jared Irwin accounted for four of Cabrini's nine shots on the night.
Rosemont's senior goaltender Chase McKain tallied four saves in the loss.
The Cavaliers will look to begin a win streak on Saturday, as they welcome Gwynedd Mercy (0-8-1, 0-1 CSAC) to Edith Robb Dixon Field. Game time is set for 12pm.
