ALLENTOWN, PA – The Cavaliers split a pair of matches today at the Buttermaker Tournament at Muhlenberg College. The Blue and White scored a 3-1 win over CSAC rival Neumann before closing the night with a 3-1 loss to Virginia Wesleyan.
Today's opening match marked the first of two regular season meetings with Neumann. Cabrini claimed tight victories in the opening two sets of the match, 26-24 and 25-23. The Knights battled back for a 25-22 win in the third, but the Cavaliers controlled but of the fourth frame, ending the match 25-18.
Freshmen
Steph Judkins and
Olivia Blankenbiller tallied double-doubles in the win. Judkins notched her third double-double of the young season, pairing 18 kills and 13 digs, while Blankenbiller's 38 assists and 12 digs also marked her third.
Junior
Emily Shannon just missed posting a double-double with nine kills and 22 digs, while
Ashley Shannon added a team high 27 digs. Both Shannon sisters also added three service aces to their respective stat lines.
The Blue and White could not carry its momentum into the nightcap, as it struggled to find its offensive rhythm against Virginia Wesleyan. The Cavaliers hit a season low .075 with a season high 27 errors in the four set loss.
Cabrini dropped the first two sets, 26-24 and 25-18, before getting back into the match with a 25-19 victory in the third. The Cavaliers could not send the match to a fifth and deciding set, as the Marlins closed the match with a 25-20 fourth set win.
Freshman
Morgan Collito posted career highs with 12 kills and 21 digs to earn her first career double-double. Blankenbiller recorded her second double-double of the day, pairing 33 assists and 15 digs.
Ashley Shannon notched a team-high 25 digs and four service aces. Judkins added nine kills and 11 digs, while senior
Kaylee Plisinski recorded five total blocks.
Cabrini (3-3) will close the Buttermaker Tournament on Saturday, as it faces host Muhlenberg (6-1) at 10am and SUNY Cortland (3-4) at 12pm.
