SCRANTON, PA – The Cabrini men's basketball team used a balanced offense to extend its win streak to nine game, as the Cavaliers topped Marywood University tonight in Scranton, PA.
The victory improved the Blue and White to 14-2 overall and 9-1 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference.
Five Cavaliers scored in double figures, led by senior
Tyheim Monroe, who paired 28 points, 17 rebounds, four blocked shots and two steals for his 15th double-double of the season.
Sophomore
Keith Blassingale drained six three pointers en route to 18 points, while senior
Deryl Bagwell posted 13 points, six rebounds and seven assists in 31 minutes of action.
The Blue and White had its deep shooting touch going early, as the team's first six baskets came from beyond the three point line. Despite the three point barrage, the Pacers kept the game tight.
Cabrini began to pull away midway through the opening stanza, as it used a 17-5 spurt to build a 35-22 lead at the 6:47 mark.
Marywood would not let Cabrini pull away, as it pulled within 36-32 with just under three minutes left in the half.
The Cavaliers reestablished its 10 point cushion at the break, as junior
Anthony Wright-Downing and Monroe combined to score the final five points of the half.
The Blue and White carried a 42-32 lead into the halftime break after shooting nearly 50% from the field, including 9-15 from three point range.
The Pacers pulled within three points early in the second half and managed to keep the score within a couple of possessions.
Leading 62-57, the Blue and White used a 13-3 run to create its largest lead of the night. Freshman
Trey Smith hit Monroe for a lay-in to give Cabrini a 75-60 lead with 5:41 to play.
Smith finished with 12 points and four assists on the night, while Wright-Downing chipped in with 11 points, five boards and a pair of steals.
Thomas Swartz and Jeremy Ringland led the Pacers (9-7, 4-6 CSAC), combining for 55 points, 12 rebounds and seven dimes in the loss.
The Cavaliers can enjoy the weekend off, before returning to action on Monday, when it will face Neumann (11-4, 6-3 CSAC) for the second time in six days. This meeting will take place in Aston, PA. at 7pm.
