Radnor, PA - The Cabrini women's basketball team reeled off their 16th win in a row tonight after holding the Colonial State Athletic Conference (CSAC) South's first place team to just 12 made field goals.
The 67-39 victory was the Cavs' third straight win of at least 20 points and was their first over the Griffins since January 9th, 2017. In fact, the last time the two teams met was last season's CSAC Championship game, in which Gwynedd Mercy came away with a 67-49 win.
Freshman
Kate Lannon paved the way for the Blue and White as she tallied a game high 16 points on 5-of-10 shooting and added a team high six rebounds. Junior
Nomi Washington was the only other Cavalier to secure double digits with 11 points, while chipping in five boards and a game high four steals. Senior
Kate Skalski knocked down 3-of-5 from down town as she finished with nine points in 10 minutes of action.
The two teams were dead locked at 7-7 just five minutes into the action when a jumper at the top of the key from senior
Gaby Jones sparked an 8-to-0 run for Cabrini, highlighted by back-to-back threes from Lannon and fellow rookie
Lexi Edwards.
Down 15-7 with just over three minutes to go in the first, the Griffins rattled off 6-to-0 spurt to end the quarter and trim the Cavalier lead to 15-13 in the process.
The second stanza was all Cabrini as they opened with a mammoth 14-to-0 run and outscored the Griffins 19-to-2 in the quarter. In fact, the Cavs held the visiting Griffins to zero field goals in the quarter, forced a total of nine turnovers in 10 minutes, including seven turnovers on seven consecutive possessions, and didn't allow a shot for more than four minutes.
With a commanding 34-15 lead at the break, Cabrini kept the offense rolling as they connected on 6-of-14 shots from the field, including 4-of-5 from beyond the arc to headed into the fourth with a 50-28 lead.
The Cavs would extend their lead to a game high 31 points in the fourth on two separate occasions, courtesy of a deep balls from senior
Brittany Runyen and freshman
Ashley Tutzauer, but would ultimately close the game with a 28 point lead and a convincing 67-39 victory.
With the win, the Blue and White improve to 18-2 overall and 11-0 in the CSAC. They will look to keep things rolling on Saturday, February 3rd when they travel to rival Neumann University. Game time is slated for 1pm.
