SCRANTON, PA - The Cabrini University women's soccer team was handed their first Atlantic East Conference (AEC) loss this afternoon following a 2-1 final at Marywood University. Today's loss also marks the first time since a 3-1 loss in 2011 the Pacers have topped the Cavs.
In spite of today's outcome, the Blue and White controlled much of the action on the offensive end as they held an 18-10 advantage in shots, including a 7-4 advantage in shots on goal, and a notable 12-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Junior
Payton Greene and freshman
Kaitryn Cloud paced the Cavalier offense with three shots a piece, while sophomore
Maria Hagan, junior
Marissa Portelli, freshman
Riley Underwood and fellow rookie
Kelly Kane tallied two shots each.
The Pacers opened the scoring in the 14th minute thanks to a strike from Julie Youngman and carried the early 1-0 lead into the intermission. The Blue and White would respond quickly coming out of the break, however as Greene connected on a one-timer off a corner from Portelli. Greene's goal marked her second of the year, while Portellie extended her team lead in assists with fifth of the season.
Marywood's Megan Swiecicki would take advantage of a perfect through ball from Natalia Colasurdo just 10 minutes later, however to put the Pacers up 2-1. Swiecicki's goal would go on to stand as the game winner en route to the 2-1 final.
Following today's action, the Cavaliers move to 7-4 overall and 1-1 in conference play. They will look to rebound this Saturday, October 13th when they host rival Neumann University for Homecoming. Game time is slated for 12pm.
