RADNOR, PA - The Cabrini women's soccer team celebrated a 3-1 victory on Homecoming this afternoon thanks to a strong effort from sophomore Alex Garces.
Garces needed just two shots on the day to tally a pair of goals to help propel the Cavaliers over the visiting Neumann University Knights.
Freshman
Kelly Kane tallied the Cavs' third and final goal in the 64th minute to round of the scoring. Classmate
Kaitryn Cloud paced the Blue and White with three shots, although none of them found the back of the net. In total, Cabrini held a 12-4 advantage in shots, including a 6-2 advantage in shots on goal, and a 3-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Garces put the Blue and White up early as she tallied her first goal in just the sixth minute of play as she received a pass in the middle of the box from junior
Katelyn Gilinger and delivered a strike past Neumann's keeper, Anna Attardi.
The early lead would stand until the waning seconds of the first half when Neumann's Kaitlin Thomas pressured the Cavalier back line and won the ball in the box. Thomas put a quick shot on goal that found the back of the net as time expired to even things at one a piece heading into the intermission.
After an even opening 15 minutes of the second half, Garces and Cabrini offense struck again in the 63rd minute. A nice give and go from Kane to Garces at the top of the box was enough for Garces to beat the Knights' back line and put the Cavs up 2-1.
Less than a minute later, Kane would provide an insurance goal for the Blue and White as she found paydirt just inside the 18 to put the Cavs up 3-1 and secure the victory.
Following today's action, Cabrini improves to 8-4 on the season and 2-1 in Atlantic East play. They will next take the field on Saturday, October 20th when they host Marymount University in their annual Breast Cancer Awareness Game. Match time is slated for 12pm.
