Women's Soccer Caps Regular Season With Draw Against Immaculata

IMMACULATA, PA - The Cabrini women's soccer team capped their regular season with a thrilling 1-1 double overtime draw against the hosting Immaculata Mighty Macs this evening.

With the tie, the Blue and White secured the No. 1 seed in the inaugural Atlantic East Conference tournament thanks to a head-to-head win over No. 2 seed Wesley College, which served as the tie breaker.

Cabrini held a 17-12 advantage in shots, including a 9-3 advantage in the first half, and limited the Macs to three corners, compared to the Cavaliers' 12. Junior Katelyn Gilinger paced the offense with four shots on the night, three of which landed on goal, while classmate Marissa Portelli recorded three shots.

Sophomore Brittany Purdy tallied Cabrini's lone goal, needing just one shots to do so, in the 34th minute of play. Freshman Riley Underwood took advantage of a loose ball in front of the Macs net and sent it Purdy's way. The Galloway, NJ native pushed the ball past the arms of the IU keeper for the games first goal.

The 1-0 lead would hold through halftime until Immaculata's Carrie Quigley evened things at one a piece in the 66th minute following a strike from the top of the box. A pair of late shots on goal from Cabrini couldn't find home as the game headed to overtime.

One shot from each team highlighted the first extra period, while the second overtime featured a flurry of offensive action from both squads. Cabrini tallied a pair of corners within 40 seconds of each other, but couldn't push one past Immaculata's Brooke Shissler.

The Mighty Macs also recorded a pair of corners followed by shots from Quigley and Riley Rudd, but sophomore Ashley Tutzauer denied the IU attack. The dust would eventually settle in the aforementioned 1-1 draw. Tutzauer would finish her night with five saves.

Following tonights action, Cabrini moves to 10-4-1 overall and 4-1-1 in Atlantic East play. Stay tuned to CabriniAthletics.com for the most up-to-date information regarding the Atlantic East Conference women's soccer tournament.
