Cavaliers Upended in Atlantic East Semifinal

RADNOR, PA - The Cabrini women's soccer team dropped a hard fought match to the upset minded Immaculata Mighty Macs in the semifinal round of the Atlantic East Conference (AEC) tournament this afternoon.

The No. 6 seeded Mighty Macs entered the second round thanks to a 3-2 victory over the No. 3 seeded Knights in yesterday's quarterfinal match and did just enough to find a way to win today's match.

Cabrini held a distinct 22-5 advantage in shots, including a a 9-3 advantage in shots on goal, while also attempting 10 corner kicks to Immaculata's six.

Mighty Mac keeper Brooke Shissler anchored the visiting back line as she proved up to the task of stopping the Blue and White attack. Shissler's nine saves were her most in a shutout this season.

Cabrini freshman forward Kaitryn Cloud paced the team with four shots, while six other Cavaliers tallied two shots each.

Immaculata opened the scoring in the second minute as a corner from Carrie Quigley missed its original target, but found an uncovered Carly Quigley just inside the 18 yard box. (Carly) Quigley delivered a strike past sophomore Ashley Tutzauer for the 1-0 advantage. Just six minutes later, Quigley doubled the Macs lead with her second goal of the game as she teed up a shot from 40 yards out.

Facing a 2-0 deficit, the Cavaliers turned up the pressure, resulting in a 10-0 advantage in shots over the next 60 minutes, but couldn't find the back of the net.

Immaculata capitalized on the Cavs offensive minded attack as the IU defense dumped a ball deep in the Cabrini zone, a ball that would ultimately be won by the Macs' Riley Rudd. Rudd delivered with goal in the 84th minute to seal the victory over Cabrini.

Following today's match, Immaculata will advance to the AEC championship where they'll face either Marywood University or Wesley College.
