Game Recap: Basketball (Women) |

Cold Shooting Dooms Cavaliers in Loss to William Paterson

RADNOR, PA - The Cabrini women's basketball team couldn't overcome a cold first half from the field as they ultimately fell to the William Paterson Pioneers in Wayne, NJ on Monday evening.

Sophomore Ashley Tutzauer paced the Cavalier offense as she totaled a career best 18 points on 5-of-12 from the field. Classmate Kate Lannon was the only other Cav to finish with double digits as she added 15 points and nine rebounds.

Senior Nomi Washington, the Cavaliers leading scorer on the year, was limited to just nine points thanks to some stiff defense from the Pioneers.

Paterson's defense was especially evident in the first half as they held the Blue and White offense to six made field goals and forced 16 turnovers.

Despite the slow start, Cabrini went into the halftime break trailing by just five points, as William Paterson clung to a 24-19 lead.

A 14-to-2 Pioneer run to open the second stanza, however, gave the hosts their largest lead of the game at 39-21 with 7:15 to play.

Cabrini would come roaring back late in the fourth quarter as they reeled off an 11-to-3 run with just over 30 seconds to play to cut the Paterson lead to seven points. Tutzauer was responsible for nine of the Cavs 11 points during the run.

The seven point deficit is unfortunately as close as the Blue and White would come as the Pioneers were able to secure the victory thanks to some late free throws.

William Paterson's Alisa Giordano tallied a game high 20 points to lead the Pioneers.

Following today's action, the Blue and White move to 2-3 overall on the young season. They will look to get back on track on Wednesday, November 28th when they travel to Scranton, PA to take on the Royals. Game time is slated for 6pm.
