SCRANTON, PA - The Cabrini women's basketball team fell to the University of Scranton Royals for the third time in a calender year this evening following a 65-51 final in Scranton, PA.
Dating back to November 29th, 2017, the Royals topped the Cavaliers during last year's regular season as well as in the second round of the NCAA tournament.
Cabrini was led offensively by senior
Nomi Washington who tallied a game high 21 points, marking her third 20 point game in the Cavs' first five contests. The versatile guard also accounted for a career high eight steals and seven rebounds. Sophomores
Kate Lannon and
Ashley Tutzauer each added 10 points for the Blue and White, while Lannon nearly tallied a double double as she pulled in nine rebounds.
Despite committing six less turnovers than the Royals, the Cavalier offense never found its rhythm in the opening 20 minutes of play as they recorded just six field goals and shot 19 percent from the field. Scranton took advantage of the Cavs' slow start as they carried a 38-19 lead into the intermission.
Cabrini found their stroke in the third quarter, however, as they doubled their first half production and outscored the Royals 19-14 in the process. A jumper from sophomore
Brianna Blair punctuated a 9-to-2 run for the Cavs as they trimmed the Royals' lead to 12 with 1:26 left in the third.
Scranton answered with a 12-to-4 run of their own, however, as they pushed their lead back to 20 points with just under seven minutes left to play. A triple from freshman
Dani Tyrell and a couple of layups from Washington kept the Blue and White within 10 points, but it proved to be too little, too late as the Royals worked the clock en route to the 65-51 final.
Scranton was paced by Bridgette Mann's 16 points, while forward Makenzie Mason tallied a double double with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Following today's action, the Blue and White move to 2-4 overall, but will look to secure their first Atlantic East Conference victory this Saturday, December 1st, when they travel to Gwynedd Mercy University to take on the Griffins. Game time is slated for 1pm.
