LAS VEGAS, NV - The Cabrini women's basketball team dropped a hard fought match against the Salisbury Seagulls this evening following a 70-56 final to cap the Las Vegas Hoopla tournament.
The Cavaliers were led offensively by sophomore
Kate Lannon's 17 points and seven rebounds. Classmate
Ashley Tutzauer rounded out the Cavs in double figures as she tallied 10 points in 20 minutes of action.
Senior
Nomi Washington added nine points, five rebounds and a game high seven steals, while junior
Cassidy Gallagher chipped in eight points and a pair of helpers.
Despite holding a 29-24 lead at the intermission, the Blue and White found themselves in an early hole in the third quarter as the Seagulls ripped off a 13-2 run to take a 37-31 lead. Back-to-back layups from Salisbury's Kaylee Otlowski highlighted the run for the Gulls.
A pair of free throws from senior
Gaby Jones would briefly cut the Salisbury lead to four points, but an ensuing 16-6 run to end the quarter gave the Seagulls a commanding 53-39 lead heading into the final stanza.
A triple from sophomore
Lexi Edwards made it a 55-44 game with 8:39 to play, but that is unfortunately as close as the Cavaliers would get as Salisbury was able to coast to the eventual 70-56 final.
The Cavalier defense did force 25 turnovers, their most since a December 1st victory over Gwynedd Mercy, but the Seagulls connected on 46 percent of their shots, compared to the Cavaliers' 29 percent.
Following today's action the Cavs move to 5-6 overall. Following a holiday break, the Blue and White will look to get back on track when they travel to Bethlehem, PA for the Moravian College Steel Club Classic where they'll take on SUNY New Paltz. Game time is slated for 12pm.
