Men's Basketball Closes 2018 with Loss at Washington & Lee

LEXINGTON, VA – The Cavaliers will have some work to do as the calendar turns to 2019, as the Cabrini men's basketball team skid continued with today's 95-66 loss at Washington & Lee University.

The Holiday Tournament consolation game loss dropped the Blue and White to 2-10 on the season, while the host Generals improved to 8-4.

Senior Anthony Wright-Downing was named to the all-tournament team after closing the weekend with 20 points and eight rebounds. Sophomore Jarren Abad added season highs with 14 points and nine boards.

The Cavaliers built an early lead, but things changed after sophomore DJ Smith's three pointer with 15:16 on the clock put Cabrini ahead 12-11.

Over the next 15 minutes, the Blue and White managed just 15 more points. W&L used a 45-9 run over the next 14 minutes to take control of the game.

The Cavaliers trailed 56-27 at the half after shooting just 11-39 from the floor before the break. The Generals took full advantage, shooting north of .500 from the field, including 8-19 from three point range.

Cabrini looked to chip away as its deficit in the second half, but the Generals' hot shooting helped push their lead to a game high 37 points early in the stanza.

Devin Kearns led the home team with 21 points on 8-11 shooting, while William Brueggeman and Roy McMillan combined for 33 points.

The Cavaliers will return to Nerney Field House on Friday, Jan. 4, when they host SUNY Cortland (6-2). Game time is slated for 7pm.
