Balanced Attack Lifts Cavaliers Over Visiting Blue Jays

RADNOR, PA - The Cabrini women's basketball team evened their season record at 4-4 following a 75-65 victory over the visiting Elizabethtown College Blue Jays.

A balanced offensive attack proved fruitful in tonight's win as four Cavaliers tallied double figures, led by sophomore Kate Lannon's 17 points.

Sophomore Lexi Edwards netted 16 points, while classmate Ashley Tutzauer and junior Meghan Matthews tallied 13 and 11 points, respectively. Senior guard Nomi Washington narrowly missed the 10 point plateau and a double double after finishing with nine points and a team high 12 rebounds.

Facing a Blue Jays team that has proven to minimize mistakes this season, the Cavalier defense forced 18 turnovers and held Elizabethtown to just 38 percent shooting from the field - a far cry from the Jays' averages.

The Blue and White got off to a fast start as they connected on four of their first five attempts giving them an early 7-5 advantage. After swapping baskets, the Cavs rattled off an 11-3 run, punctuated by a lay in from Edwards and a pair of triples from Tutzauer, to end the quarter with a 23-15 lead.

A cold second stanza from the offense ensued, as they hit just 3-of-15 from the field. Etown capitalized as they managed to trim the Cavs' lead to 33-28 heading into the intermission.

The Blue and White would find their rhythm in the third and fourth quarter, however as the offense posted a total of 42 second half points to pull away from the Blue Jays. A strong effort from the charity stripe highlighted the second half as Cabrini converted 19-of-22 attempts. Edwards was especially effective as the sophomore hit 7-of-8 second half free throw attempts.

Following today's game, the Cavaliers even their overall record at 4-4 on the young season. They will look to run their win streak to three games on Friday, December 7th when they host Brooklyn College at 6pm in a rematch of last years NCAA tournament first round; the Cavs topped Brooklyn by a 65-52 final.
