RADNOR, PA - The Cabrini women's basketball team extended their winning streak to three games this evening following a 74-62 victory over the visiting Brooklyn College Bulldogs.
Senior
Nomi Washington paced the Blue and White in their rematch of last year's NCAA Tournament First Round as she finished with a game high 20 points on 9-of-20 from the field. The do-it-all veteran also added a team best seven rebounds and six steals.
Junior
Meghan Matthews was the only other Cavalier to tally double digits, finishing with 12 points and six assists. Sophomore
Lexi Edwards netted nine points, while classmate
Ashley Tutzauer and freshman
Kirsten Searcy chipped in eight points each. In total, 10 different Cavaliers marked the scoring column.
The Blue and White got off to a fast start as they tallied 17 first quarter points, highlighted by a string of impressive layups from Searcy.
After Brooklyn cut the Cavs lead to 19-17 early in the second stanza, the Blue and White rattled off an 8-0 run to extend their lead to 27-17. Rookie
Brianna Blair sparked the run with an and-one for three points the old fashioned way. The lead would grow to 13 points at 37-24 with 2:44 left in the half following a triple from Tutzauer.
A short Bulldog run trimmed the lead to 41-36 entering the intermission.
Cabrini responded out of the break with an 11-3 run to push their lead to 52-41 midway through the third quarter. The double digit lead would hold steady the rest of the way as the Cavs ballooned the lead to a game high 14 points following a pair of free throws from junior
Cassidy Gallagher.
Following tonight's action, the Cavs improve to 5-4 overall. They will look to extend their win streak to four games on Wednesday, December 19th, when they travel to Las Vegas, Nevada to face Wartburg College in the Las Vegas Hoopla Tournament. Game time is slated for noon.
