Cavaliers Can't Overcome 2nd Half Spurt in Leb. Valley Loss

HUNTINGDON, PA – The Cavaliers could not overcome 30% shooting in the second half and a season high 23 turnovers, as the Cabrini men's basketball team suffered an 83-67 loss to Lebanon Valley College in at the 27th Annual Doc Greene Tournament at Juniata College.

The Blue and White's fourth consecutive loss dropped the team to 2-6 overall. Cabrini will face Wilson College at 2pm on Saturday in the event's consolation game.

Five Cavaliers scored between 8-15 points on the day, with sophomore CJ Smith leading the way with 15. Senior Anthony Wright-Downing added 12 points, while freshman Voshon Mack paired 11 points and a game high 12 rebounds.

The teams played a back and forth opening 20 minutes, as the first half features six ties and 10 lead changes.  

Cabrini shot north of 53% in the first half, with sophomore Trey Smith notching each of his 10 points in the period.

The Dutchmen took control of the action in the second half, breaking the 39-39 halftime tie with a 13-3 spurt.  DJ Smith and senior Alsmith Saintilus scored eight consecutive points, cutting the Cabrini deficit to 52-50, but the Cavaliers would get no closer.

Minutes later, Lebanon Valley broke the game open, as it used a 16-0 run over five minutes to push its lead to 75-25 with just under seven minutes to play.

The Blue and White shot just 30% from the field after the halftime break, including 5-19 from three point range, and scored just 28 second half points, its second lowest single period output of the season.  

Jeremy Deihm led Lebanon Valley (3-5) with 18 points, while Justin Baker paired 17 points and 10 boards in the win. The Dutchmen will face tournament host Juniata in Saturday's championship game.

Juniata (3-5) scored a 78-71 win over Wilson (2-7) in Friday's second contest. The home squad broke open a tight game in the second half, leading by as many as 17 points before Wilson mounted a comeback.

The Phoenix cut their deficit to 72-66 in the final minutes, before Juniata sealed the win from the free throw line.

Brandon Martinazzi scored 20 points in the Eagles' win, surpassing the 1,000 career point plateau, while Rashaan Bean led Wilson with 26 points, including five three pointers.
