Women's Basketball Keeps Rolling With 80-63 Victory On Senior Night

Radnor, PA - The Cabrini women's basketball team kept the train rolling this evening as they secured their 19th win in a row, tying the longest streak since the 2012-13 season, with an 80-63 victory on Senior Night over the visiting Rosemont College Ravens.

The Cavaliers celebrated the careers of seniors Sabrina Hackendorn, Brittany Runyen, Caroline Price and Kate Skalski tonight, who helped lead the team to 79 total victories, including a 54-7 record in Colonial States Athletic Conference games, and the 2014 and 2015 CSAC Championships. Together they have accounted for 983 points, 552 rebounds and 168 assists in their 229 games played in the Blue and White.

All four earned the start tonight and collectively finished with 10 points, 21 rebounds, and five assists. Hackendorn led the bunch with six points and 14 rebounds, while Runyen added five points and two boards.

Sophomore Meghan Matthews and junior Nomi Washington tied with a game high 19 points each in 28 and 25 minutes, respectively. The freshmen duo of Kate Lannon and Lexi Edwards finished with nine points each, while junior Gaby Jones added eight points and three rebounds.

The Blue and White capitalized on five Rosemont turnovers in the first five minutes to jump out to a 9-0 lead. A layup and a pair of free throws briefly cut the Cavs' lead back to five points, but a jumper from Hackendorn sparked a 13-to-2 run for Cabrini to end the quarter with a 22-6 advantage.

The Cavs extended their lead to 24 points with just over three minutes left in the half, but the Ravens responded with a 10-to-2 run of their own, highlighted by a pair of long balls from junior Ayanna Thompson and sophomore Ke'alohilani Naone-Carter, to make it a 38-22 Cabrini lead at the intermission.

The final 20 minutes featured a pair of runs for the visiting Ravens that would cut the Cavalier lead to just 11 points, but the visitors never managed to get any closer. Washington and the Cavs made key baskets when they had to down the stretch to keep Rosemont at bay, highlighted by Washington's eight points in the final 10 minutes and a Runyen trey to cap the win and Senior Night in the closing seconds.

In total, the Blue and White forced a season best 27 turnovers on the evening, resulting in 27 points.

Rosemont senior Jasmyn Parker paced her squad with 14 points, while Thompson and classmate Shawn Dowd finished with 10 and 13 points, respectively.

As mentioned, the Cavaliers improve to 21-2 overall and 14-0 in conference play. They will next take the hardwood on Wednesday, February 14th when they travel to Immaculata, PA to take on the Mighty Macs. Game time is slated for 6pm.
