CLERMONT, FL – The Cabrini softball team split a pair of games on its opening day of the 2018 season. The Cavaliers fell to Rose-Hulman 14-4 before scoring a 2-0 win over Capital in Clermont, FL.
The Blue and White fell behind early in today's opener, as the Fightin' Engineers plated three runs on three hits on the top of the first inning.
Senior
Chrissy Ferraro recorded Cabrini's first hit of the season in the bottom of the first, but the score remained 3-0. Rose-Hulman added a single run in the third, before the Cavaliers opened their scoring in the bottom half of the frame.
A two out walk by Ferraro began the rally, as the senior advanced to third on a single by classmate Alexandra Ramos. Fellow senior
Jess Giordano plated both runners with a single to right center, before scoring on a third consecutive single by junior
Marissa Alpaugh.
Rose-Hulman put the game away in the top of the fourth, scoring 10 runs on 10 singles.

Darian Caputo. Cabrini failed to add more runs in the fifth, as the game ended after five complete innings.
Ferraro and Alpaugh recorded two base knocks for Cabrini, while Giordano recorded a pair of RBI. The senior also suffered the loss, allowing 10 earned runs on nine hits in 3.1 innings.
The Blue and White rallied in the nightcap on the strength of freshman
Casey Scheuren's first career start. The rookie scattered seven hits over seven innings with a pair of strikeouts on the day.
Scheuren and Capital junior Brianna Reardon engaged in a pitcher's duel, as game remained scoreless until the top of the seventh.
Freshman Amber Seaman singles up the middle before scoring when sophomore
Alexandra Schell reached on an error. Ferraro plated the game's second run as freshman
Olivia Young scored on a fielder's choice.
The Blue and White will return to action tomorrow, as it faces Augustana College at 2pm and Hanover College at 4:30pm.
