Baltimore, MD - The Cabrini women's basketball team tied their longest win streak since the 2014-15 season tonight as they knocked off the hometown Gators of Notre Dame (MD) for their 18th consecutive victory.
The Cavaliers held the Gators to just 15 field goals on the night, highlighted by Notre Dame's 0-for-15 mark from beyond the arc. Tonight's 72-34 victory was also the Cavs' second 30+ point victory over the Gators this season.
Senior
Kate Skalski paced the Blue and White with 17 points in just 17 minutes, as she hit 5-of-6 from down town and 6-of-7 from the field. Sophomore
Meghan Matthews finished with 13 points and five assists, while senior
Sabrina Hackendorn added 10 points in 16 minutes. Freshman
Kate King dished out a career high seven assists coming off the bench.
The Gators jumped out to a 6-0 lead after baskets on their first three possessions, but a trey from Matthews split the Gators' lead in half with 6:38 left in the first. The long ball from Matthews sparked a 20-to-4 run for the Blue and White to give them a 20-10 lead after the opening quarter.
After swapping baskets to open the second, a pair of threes from sophomore
Cassidy Gallagher extended the Cavs' lead to 28-14. The Gators played nearly even with the Blue and White for the remainder of the quarter, however as Cabrini headed to the half with a 16 point lead, up 36-20.
Cabrini matched their first half output in quarters three and four as they added another 36 points across the final 20 minutes of action. The defense, however allowed just 14 second half points, highlighted by just four points and nine forced turnovers in the final 10 minutes of play.
Senior Zaria Comer finished with a team high 16 points on 8-of-14 shooting and eight rebounds to lead the Gators.
As mentioned, the Cavaliers improve to 20-2 on the year and 13-0 in the CSAC after tonight's victory. The Blue and White will host Rosemont College on Saturday, February 10th for a special senior day matchup. Game time is slated for 1pm.
