Radnor, PA - The Cabrini baseball team rolled to their third and fourth consecutive victories this afternoon as they picked up a double header sweep the Penn State Brandywine Lions.
Game One: Cabrini 11, Brandywine 5
The Cavalier offense took advantage of 11 free passes from the Brandywine pitching staff as they worked out nine walks and were hit by pitches twice en route to 11 runs on the day.
Junior
John Lindeborn led the charge as he collected four RBI's to push his team leading RBI total to 17. The Gloucester native has been on a tear as of late, collecting nine RBI's over the weekend's two series, including four doubles and five runs scored.
Redshirt freshman
Steven Priest and junior
Tyler Norris each collected three RBI's, while freshman
Mack McKisson recorded just one official at bat, but came around to score twice thanks to working out two walks.
Fellow freshman
Corey Hunt picked up his team leading third win of the season after logging 4.1 innings and giving up four earned. Classmate
Matt Dobeck collected the save, tossing two clean innings and striking out three.
After Brandywine opened the first frame with a homerun from Matt Masi, the Blue and White responded with seven runs to take a commanding lead. Senior
Dylan Butler, like two teammates before him, worked out a walk to force home the Cavs' first run and even things at one a piece. Lindeborn followed with a bases clearing three RBI double down the right field line to give Cabrini a 4-1 lead.
An RBI single from Priest and a two RBI double from Norris capped the innings' scoring at seven.
The Lions would pull to within three runs in the top of the fifth as they chased Hunt and added another run off freshman reliever
Chris Huyette to make it an 8-5 Cabrini lead.
Dobeck would enter in the top of the sixth and shut the door on the Lions' comeback attempt, collecting his second save of the season in the process.
Game Two: Cabrini 10, Brandywine 2
Rookie
Griffin Hays notched his first career victory in the Blue and White as the tall righty tossed four innings of two run ball and struck out two.
Freshman
Shane Souchuck and junior
Tyler Ronayne combined for three hitless innings in relief of Hays, continuing to keep the Brandywine hitters off balance.
McKisson paved the way offensively as he finished 3-4 with three RBI's and a double. The rookie owns a ridiculous .500/.581/.722 triple slash line (BA/OBP/SLG) through 36 at bats, leading the Cavaliers in all three categories.
Norris and senior
Brett Kuchera each finished with two RBI's, highlighted by Kuchera's first home run of the season.
The Blue and White jumped on Brandywine starter Brad Ulmer as they pushed across eight runs in the first inning, with the eventual game winner being an RBI walk from Priest.
The Lions added one run in both the second and third, including Masi's second long ball of the day, to cut the Cavs' lead to 8-2, but it would prove not enough as Cabrini would extend the lead back to eight for the eventual 10-2 final.
With the sweep, the Cavs improve to 9-6 overall and will look for their fifth straight win on Tuesday, March 20th when they travel to crossroad rival Eastern University for the Battle of Eagle Road. First pitch is slated for 3pm.
