Haverford, PA - The Cabrini baseball team secured their 10th victory of the season this afternoon following an 8-7 final over Haverford College.
Freshman reliever
Matt Dobeck earned the victory, the first of his collegiate career, after tossing 2.1 innings. Junior Tyler Ronane shut the door on the Haverford offense for his second save of the year after 1.1 innings in which he struck out one.
Freshman
Griffin Hays got the start and threw four efficient innings, facing just four over the minimum and striking out one.
Classmate
JD Barrett paced the Cavalier offense as he finished 2-3 with two doubles, two runs and two RBI's. Senior
Dylan Butler collected his 12th and 13th RBI's on the year after going 1-3, while sophomore
Joe Aurite collected his first long ball of the season with a solo shot to left.
The Blue and White struck early as they pushed across a run via a hit-by-pitch RBI from freshman
Mack McKisson in the top of the first to claim the early 1-0 lead, but the Fords would quickly even things in their half of the frame.
After both teams traded runs in the second and third to make it a 2-2 ball game, Aurite connected for his first home run of the year to give the Cavs the 3-2 edge. Following a pair of walks and a double from junior
Tyler Norris, Butler stepped to the plate with the bases loaded and sent a single to left to push Cabrini's lead to 5-2.
The Fords would cut the Cavs' lead to 5-4 in the fifth inning, but a two RBI double from Barrett and an RBI single from junior
John Lindeborn in the seventh gave the Cavaliers the insurance runs they would need.
Haverford would threaten late as they added three runs in the bottom of the eighth to make in an 8-7 game, but as mentioned Ronayne would quiet the Fords' bats and give Cabrini their 10th victory of the season.
With the win, Cabrini moves to 10-7 overall - an incredible improvement from last season when the Blue and White needed until May 4th to collect their 10th win. They will face a quick turn around as they prepare to face Penn College tomorrow, March 30th for a double header beginning at noon.
