Diamond Cavs Edged in Bottom of the Ninth by Knights Walk Off

Aston, PA - The Cabrini baseball team mashed out 10 hits and used a late rally to tie the game in the top of the ninth, but it proved not enough as the hosting Neumann Knights captured a 3-2 victory thanks to a walk off single.

Junior John Lindeborn paced the Cavalier offense as he finished 4-4 on the day with a double and a game tying RBI, while freshman Mack McKisson and sophomore Joe Aurite both added two hits a piece.

Senior Josh Breittholz toed the rubber and tossed four innings, working around nine hits and two walks to only surrender two runs for the no-decision. Today's outing raised the senior's ERA to 1.66. Freshman Drew Swire came on in relief of Breittholz and struck out three in four innings of his own and surrendered just two base knocks.

Fellow rookie Shane Souchuck was saddled with the loss after allowing a walkoff single in the ninth.

The Blue and White opened up the scoring in the top of the first after back-to-back singles and a walk loaded the bases for senior Dylan Butler. Butler worked out a walk to give the Cavs the 1-0 lead and his 15th RBI of the season.

The Knights would respond in their half of the inning, however, as they tied things up following an RBI single from Cody MacNair.

Neumann would take the lead in the second after some heads up baserunning from Zach Ray who took off for home when teammate Matt McLaughlin was caught in a rundown following a pickoff attempt.

The Knights would carry the 2-1 lead into the top of the ninth, until the Cavaliers mounted a comeback attempt. Junior Tyler Norris led things off with a single to left and moved to second following a wild pitch. A flyout from freshman JD Barrett allowed the speedy outfielder to advance to third with only one out.

Lindeborn stepped into the box and delivered a SAC fly to left to even the score at two all; the SAC fly was the junior's team leading 22nd RBI on the year. Neumann would end the threat as reliever Josh Cruz retired McKisson on three pitches.

As mentioned, the Knights ultimately captured the walk off win following back-to-back singles and a walk to load the bases for Joey Pedorenko, who roped a single to left.

Following today's action, the Blue and White move to 11-12 overall and 0-3 in the CSAC. They will look to secure their first conference win of the season on Thursday, April 12th when they host the Knights at 3pm.
