Radnor, PA - The Cabrini baseball team fell to the visiting Neumann University Knights this afternoon by a 7-3 final.
The Blue and White were led offensively by freshman
Brett Swire who collected the Cavs' big hit as he went the opposite way for a two RBI single in the bottom of the sixth. Junior
John Lindeborn tallied the Cavs remaining RBI as he finished the day 1-5 at the dish.
Senior
Dylan Butler and sophomore
Joe Aurite collected two hits apiece, while rookie
JD Barrett finished 1-5.
Freshman
Corey Hunt toed the rubber for Cabrini and was ultimately saddled with the loss after lasting three innings and allowing five runs (two earned). Classmate
Ray Lutick came on in relief of Hunt to begin the fourth and turned in a solid 5.1 innings, allowing two runs and striking out two.
Hunt was opposed by Grant Wallace who earned the victory for the Knights, tossing 5.1 innings and allowing three runs on seven hits.
The Blue and White faced an early deficit after Neumann struck for four runs in the second and one in the third, highlighted by an RBI single from Andrew Fowler.
Cabrini would answer in their half of the third thanks to an RBI groundout from Lindeborn to plate sophomore
Erick Vicario.
Down 5-1 in the sixth, the Cavs mounted their biggest threat of the afternoon as they loaded the bases with nobody out.
Swire stepped to the plate as a pinch hitter and delivered a clutch single through the right side to score both McKisson and Henry and make it a 5-3 ballgame. Knights' skipper Dan DiBartolomeo dipped into his pen to try and halt the Cavalier momentum by sending Isiah Morales to the bump. The move payed dividends as Morales retired Vicario and Barrett to end the inning.
Neumann would go on to add an insurance run in the ninth to coast to the 7-3 victory.
With the loss, the Cavaliers move to 11-13 overall and 0-4 in the conference. They will look to secure their first CSAC win tomorrow when they travel to Clarks Summit University for a doubleheader beginning at 1pm.
