Diamond Cavs Find Offense in Sweep of Defenders

Clarks Summit, PA - The Cabrini baseball team secured their first two conference victories of the season this afternoon as they swept out the Clarks Summit Defenders on their home turf.

Game One: Cabrini 9, Clarks Summit 3
The Blue and White used a late rally in game one to secure the 9-3 victory as they tacked on six runs in the sixth inning.

Every position player, minus starter Griffin Hays, recorded at least one hit while five Cavs tallied two base knocks. Junior John Lindeborn led the bunch as he finished 2-5 with two doubles, three RBI's and a run scored. Sophomore Alex Del Giudice added two RBI's thanks to his second home run of the season.

As mentioned, freshman Griffin Hays earned the start and turned in a complete game effort, lasting seven innings and allowing three earned runs to secure his second victory of the year.

The Defenders struck first with a two run home run in the first to snag the early lead, but the Blue and White would respond in the third with four consecutive hits to take the 3-2 lead. Lindeborn and freshman JD Barrett delivered the big blows with back-to-back doubles.

A second Summit homer evened things at three in the fifth, until Del Giudice smacked his second long ball of the year in the ensuing frame to give the lead back to the Cavs at 5-3. The long ball would stand as the game winner for the Blue and White, as they would add four more insurance runs en route to the 9-3 final.

Game Two: Cabrini 21, Clarks Summit 3
Cabrini seemingly had their way offensively in game two as they scored a program record 21 runs off of 21 hits.

Norris (2), Lindeborn (2) and senior Dylan Butler all went yard, while seven Cavs in total turned in multi-hit performances.

Lindeborn turned in another strong performance overall at the dish, finishing 4-5 with four runs, five RBI's and two walks. Butler and sophomore Vince Gares, meanwhile finished with three hits apiece and knocked in four and three runs, respectively.

Sophomore Jake Dohar earned the start and lasted four innings, surrendering three runs on five hits and striking out two and gave way to rookie Chris Huyette who picked up the victory.

Cabrini took advantage of 18 free passes, including nine hit-by-pitches, en route to the 21 runs. Freshman Brett Swire took the bulk of those inside pitches as he was pegged a program record four times in game two. The rookie reached base five times on the day, coming around to score twice.

Leading 4-3 in the fourth, the Blue and White added six runs in the fifth and another six runs in the eighth to cushion their lead and coast to the 21-3 final.

Following today's action, the Cavs improve to 13-13 overall and 2-4 in conference play and will look to keep things rolling when they travel to Gwynedd Mercy on Monday, April 16th. First pitch is slated for 3:30pm.
