ROSEMONT, PA – The Cabrini softball team continued its roll today, as the Cavaliers scored 10-2 and 10-0 wins at Rosemont College.
The Cavaliers improved to 16-8 overall and 12-2 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference, extending their current win streak to 12 games, the program's longest run since winning 14 straight in 2004.
Cabrini built an early lead, as junior
Marissa Alpaugh's double plated classmate
Darian Caputo. Alpaugh would cross the plate on a wild pitch to give the Cavaliers a 2-0 lead after the top of the first.
Rosemont cut its deficit in half in the bottom of the frame, but the Cavaliers were back on the base path in the second. Senior
Alexandria Ramos' single plated Alpaugh, before the senior scored on another wild pitch. The Blue and White pushed its lead to 5-1 after senior
Victoria Hall's infield single scored sophomore
Alexandra Schell.
The Ravens scored a single run in the third, but Cabrini added two more runs in the fourth, as Alpaugh and senior
Jess Giordano drove in runs with back to back singles to center field.
The Cavaliers tacked on a trio of insurance runs in the seventh. Caputo's bases loaded sacrifice fly scored Schell before Alpaugh's single drove in freshman
Aysiah Cintron and senior
Sarah Beckner.
Six Cavaliers recorded two base hits in the win, led by Alpaugh, who went 3-4 with three runs scored and four RBI.
Giordano improved to 7-4 in the pitcher's circle, as the senior scattered five hits and recorded a career high 13 strike outs.
Freshman hurler
Casey Scheuren controlled the Rosemont offense in the nightcap, as the rookie tossed a one-hitter with five strikeouts.
While Sheuren kept the Ravens off the bases, the Blue and White offense made the most of its chances, recording 10 runs on 14 hits.
Cabrini plated a single run in the top of the first, as a Giordano infield single scored Caputo. The Cavaliers loaded the bases early in the second inning before plating four runs without a hit, as the club took advantage of a hit batter and pair of errors.
The Blue and White pushed its lead to 9-0 in the third, adding four more runs, including a two-RBI double by Caputo that scored freshmen
Amber Seamen and
Olivia Young.
Senior
Chrissy Ferraro drove in the final run of the game, as the senior's single scored Young.
Seamen, Hall and Young, Cabrini's 7-8-9 hitters combined to go 7-11 with five runs scored, while Caputo and Alpaugh drove in two runs each.
